Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer.

I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure as they felt that Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him.

Shane seemed so...

I often talk about human connections in terms of being Self aware, but I believe that these connections run much deeper. In my opinion, all living things are connected and the following story only solidifies this belief.

The following photos, from Exclusive Private Game Reserve, tell the story of the incredible bond that Lawrence Anthony, a legend in South Africa and author of the bestseller The Elephant Whisperer, had with elephants. According to the Reserves Facebook page, two days after his passing, the whole herd arrived at the main house, home to Lawrence and I. We had not seen them here for a very long time. Extraordinary proof of animal sensitivity and awareness that only a few human can perceive.” The elephants stayed for two days and two nights before making their journey back home.

From the Daily Mail: “Photographer Michel Denis-Huot, who captured these amazing pictures on safari in Kenya 's Masai Mara in October last year, said he was astounded by what he saw:

‘These three brothers (cheetahs) have been living together since they left their mother at about 18 months old,' he said. 'On the morning we saw them, they seemed not to be hungry, walking quickly but stopping sometimes to play together. At one point, they met a group of impala who ran away. But one youngster was not quick enough and the brothers caught it easily.’"

What followed is astounding and unexpected. The cheetahs began playing with the impala – patting it on the head and licking it. The impala even returned the affection.

Check out the incredible photos in the...

How is it possible that three completely different species, stereotypically known to dislike each other, can get along? In the video below, Gregory Pike explains that it’s not too good to be true.

Aside from being a delightfully uplifting story, this video holds special meaning for me. I believe that the same principles can apply to Be Self Aware and our own journeys to discovering our Self – the calm, confident core of who we are.

Have you ever met someone who you felt you just couldn’t get along with? I believe that in those situations, that person triggers vulnerable parts of us which, in turn, causes us to react in some way. Perhaps we argue with that person, or we avoid them. Although our individual reactions will vary, I believe that these...

Here’s another example of the amazing things we can do if we can get our Parts to step back. Like the Baseball video that we posted recently, the golfer in this video had to constantly adjust his technique (mentally and physically) to achieve the outcomes that he desired.

I believe the difference in being good at something and being a professional has a lot to do with what is going on in our mind. I have been told that most of the pros have people working with them in order to quiet their minds (what we call getting into Self) in order to get to the next step. I believe that if we do this for ourselves in our every day lives, we can accomplish just about anything we want without the use of gimmicks or drugs. This includes quitting smoking, controlling anger, calming...
